Each resource emphasizes engaging students in phenomena related to core ideas and science and engineering practices of the Next Generation Science Standards.

Virtual Field Trips & Videos

Join the educators from King County Wastewater Treatment Division as they teach virtual water lessons! Through hands-on activities, science experiments and virtual water tours, the lessons will teach students of all ages about our water systems and what they can do every day to protect our environment.

Sign-up: Please register 24 hours in advance - we will send an email to registered participants the day before the event with more information and a zoom link with password protection.

Humans and the Water Cycle (grades K-2) June 2nd @ 10:00am – 10:45am
How are we connected to the water cycle? Join us in learning more about water as we read a story, conduct a scientific experiment and find out what we can do each day to help keep our water clean!

Wastewater Engineering Challenge (grades 3–5) June 4th @ 10:00am-11:00am
We are really good at making water dirty, but how do we get out all that stuff that gets in the water? Join us for a virtual interactive lesson to learn about the engineering design process behind cleaning our water!

You Flushed What!? (grades 6–8) June 9th @ 1:00pm – 2:00pm
What happens to pee, poop, TP or even cell phones when they get flushed? Want to learn what you can do to protect Puget Sound from where you live? Join us for a virtual behind the scenes tour of our water systems.

Uncovering the Mysteries of Wastewater Treatment (grades 9–12) June 11th @ 1:00pm-2:30pm
Have you ever wondered what happens to the water we use each day? Hint: there’s a complex system of engineering and science involved that most people don’t know about. In this lesson, we will reveal the hidden world of wastewater treatment through a mix of interactive activities and conversations.

Join EarthEcho International as we highlight relatable voices in STEM careers! With STEMExplore, we invite female professionals to share their STEM journey with a live audience during dynamic 45-minute virtual events.

The conversation will focus on women in STEM and the STEMExplore Mentor will share her personal journey and the positive influences that helped her to realize her professional capabilities.

During this 45-minute session, the participants will:
- Learn about marine science as a career in general;
- Observe the day to day tasks of a conservationist working in fisheries management;
- Gain insight into a STEM career and learn the steps it takes to become a professional in this area;
- Ask interview questions of the STEMExplore expert.
