As environmental and sustainability professionals, we care about this place we call home in all its dimensions—environmental, social, economic, political, and spiritual. Have you ever felt the desire to have an even greater impact and perhaps at an even broader scale?

As the professional association supporting environmental and sustainability education practitioners and researchers across our state, E3 WA seeks to further expand our network with individuals who bring diverse perspectives, lived experiences, racial and cultural backgrounds, as well as representation from all regions of our state.

Please consider joining an E3 Washington committee! Committees can include both E3 WA board members and members of the community. Each E3 Washington community provides opportunities to engage your skills and interests, build your professional portfolio, and help build capacity for environmental and sustainability education across Washington state.

E3 Washington Committees

Equity Committee: Current Chair – Sylvia Hadnot, HasEverything & Co.

The Equity Committee, along with participation from the full Board, guides E3 WA along the continuum for becoming an anti-racist organization. The Equity Committee holds the organization and individuals accountable to transparency, collaboration and accessibility in all activities to mitigate the cultural and racial barriers of environmentalism and our broader society. The Equity Committee is particularly interested in engaging participants who identify as BIPOC, having special needs, and/or LGBTQ+.

Catalyst Committee: Chair – Dylan Gschwind, Cascade Bicycle Club

The Catalyst Committee leads E3 Washington’s efforts to advocate for strong environmental and sustainability education policies and programs across our state and to support national efforts led by the NAAEE. Each year, E3 WA’s Catalyst Committee develops and advocates for a slate of policy priorities held by coalition partners through the state legislative process. Catalyst Committee members represent E3 WA to support NAAEE’s federal policy initiatives. The Catalyst Committee welcomes anyone interested in supporting ESE through policy advocacy.

Conference Committee: Chair – Courtney Sullivan, National Wildlife Federation

The E3 Washington Conference Committee is an opportunity to bring together those who work for the environment, equity, and economy throughout Washington to network, learn, and share. Together we strategize on the best way each year to host a conference to learn from each other about what approaches people are using in the current culture, institutional racism, movements for change, climate change, and restoration of our relationships to land.

Convenings Committee: Co-Chair – Becca Kedenburg & Elizabeth Schmitz

The Convening Committee is responsible for oversight of the convening aspect listed in E3 Washington’s key roles as catalyst, communicator and convener of environmental and sustainability education in WA. By bringing together members from across the state, we provide opportunities for the network to build community, share, learn, and support the statewide work of E3 Washington. Current projects include supporting regional gatherings, connecting with allied networks and considering adopting a certification process for informal educators in Washington.

Communications Committee: Interim Chair – Ro Gandour-Rood, Tacoma Public Utilities

The Communications Committee develops the E3 Washington messaging and outreach strategy content, continually refreshes and renews the E3 Washington’s website and publishes E3 Washington’s newsletter. The Communications Committee welcomes anyone interested in strengthening E3 Washington’s statewide network through communications and is in particular needs for individuals savvy in social media and digital marketing.

Development Committee: Chair – Sylvia Hadnot, HasEverything & Co.

The Development Committee works to secure the human, financial, and in-kind resources to ensure E3 Washington's long term organizational sustainability. The Development Committee supports the annual new board member recruitment cycle and helps to identify, cultivate, and secure new sources of financial and in-kind resources.

<Internal> Finance and Operations Committee: Claudia Ludwig, Institute of Systems Biology (ISB)

This Finance and Operations Committee is responsible for the financial health of the E3 WA organization. The committee tracks and oversees organizational revenue and expenses to ensure E3 WA has up-to-date financial records, financial compliance, and ultimately a sustainable future for the organization. The Finance Committee welcomes anyone with special interests in financial capacity building and non-profit management, is detail oriented, and eager to learn.
